| Collector's Magnum from Lasseter Family Winery Etched & Signed by John Lasseter Lasseter Family wines are the result of Nancy and John’s love of French style blended wines. Their intent is to craft only wines of the highest quality in the styles and varietals that they themselves like to drink. The wines are created with great care under the direction of winemaker, Julia Iantosca, in a hands-on approach by three generations of the Lasseter family. Justi Creek Vineyard and the Lasseter Family Winery are part of a beautiful 85 acre ranch in Sonoma Valley on the outskirts of Glen Ellen that was acquired by the Lasseter family in 2000 and 2002. They embarked on an environmentally sensitive upgrading of the historic property, lovingly restoring the natural habitat and converting the vineyard exclusively to organic farming practices. Today, the land is alive again, nurtured back to its optimal expression of this very special winegrowing area. The red Bordeaux varietals in this wine are grown on the Upper Justi block, a seventeen-acre vineyard on a bench of land west of Calabasas Creek, slightly higher in elevation than the valley floor. Paying homage to the wines of Bordeaux ’s Merlot-based Right Bank , this wine shows the complexity of blends from that region. The wine’s aroma is a mélange of ripe fruit-black cherry and cassis. Hints of cloves and nutmeg together with notes of vanilla and blackberry bring to mind a warm blackberry bramble. Notes of cola, toasty oak and a bit of tobacco leaf lend further interest. In the mouth the wine is rich and full with graceful tannins that enhance the long, complete finish. Donors: Lasseter Family Winery, Nancy & John Lasseter $2500 | |
