Art History Lecture Series: Art in Environmental Spaces

April 23, 2013
May 21, 2013
June 25, 2013
April and May, 2–4 pm; June, 10 am-3 pm

Outdoor artworks with an intentional and direct involvement with their natural surroundings now occupy a pivotal place among art created in the past 50 years. Artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Olafur Eliasson, Viola Frey and Richard Serra deliberately use environmental space as exhibition space, creating dynamic new relationships between art and nature and negating long held ideas of where, how, and for whom art should be displayed.

The series concludes with a “field trip,” (via car pool) to Paradise Ridge winery and sculpture park in Santa Rosa, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the artworks on the grounds and partake in a delicious box lunch and glass of wine overlooking the sculpture garden.
