Join Ann Wiklund in this three-part series exploring twentieth century artists such as Joseph Beuys, Robert Rauschenberg, Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, Yoko Ono, Vito Acconci, John Baldessari, David Ireland, Barbara Kruger, Bruce Nauman, and Jenny Holzer who challenged our notions of art making, the supremacy of the art object, and art as a marketable commodity, all while asserting the importance of the artist’s idea and the utilization of language. SVMA Members: $60, General Public: $75 |
| Art History Seminar: Sol LeWitt March 5 and April 9, Mondays, 2–4pm Limited to 12 participants, Instructor: Ann Wiklund
Sol LeWitt is considered to be one of the seminal, American conceptual artists. He produced over 1200 “wall drawings,” which he designed but rarely executed himself. Whether working in two or three dimensions, LeWitt argued that the most important aspect of conceptual art was the idea behind it. “When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.” SVMA Members: $40, General Public: $50 |
