Some Ekphrastic Evening

July 22, 2015
6pm

Art and poetry converge once again at SVMA on Wednesday night, July 22 at 6pm when three notable California poets come together on “Some Ekphrastic Evening” to celebrate the art of Richard Diebenkorn and the creative synergy often found between poets and painters. William Greenwood and Nils Peterson will read a selection of their ekphrastic poetry (that’s poetry the describes a work of art) in conjunction with Sonoma Valley Museum of Art’s current exhibition, The Intimate Diebenkorn: Works on Paper, 1949-1992.

This program was envisioned by Greenwood, who over the years has written a short series of poems inspired by Diebenkorn’s paintings. Greenwood is joined by his friend and colleague Nils Peterson, a driving force in California’s contemporary literary scene, and Santa Clara County’s first Poet Laureate from 2009-2011. The evening will begin with an introduction by Sonoma County’s Poet Laureate, Katherine Hastings

$5 admission can be paid at the door, but we would greatly appreciate your RSVP!
