PLAYING WITH FIRE: Metal Sculpting and Fabrication with Jim Callahan SOLD OUT

September 10, 2017
Sculptor Jim Callahan leads this 4-hour hands-on workshop, introducing students to metal sculpting and fabrication. Learn basic metalworking techniques and explore the metal sculptor's creative process: torch work and bending, welding, soldering, tapping and drilling techniques. Working with wire, students will design their own pieces, bringing a three-dimensional sculpture to life.
The class will meet at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art at 1pm, where Jim will guide participants on a visit to see and discuss the Albert Paley: Thresholds exhibition. Then we'll move on to view the Paley sculptures on the Plaza, and then make our way to Jim's studio on East Napa Street, where the magic begins.
Jim Callahan is Sonoma Valley Museum of Art's founding Director and 2000 Sonoma Treasure Artist recipient. Currently, he is best known for his recent cast bronze sculpture of General Mariano Vallejo, which was dedicated this summer on Sonoma's Plaza.
Fee: $135 (includes $15 materials fee) SVMA members: $120
