Beginning Italic Calligraphy

April 27, 2016 to June 8, 2016
6-8pm

Italic calligraphy is a popular lettering style used for invitations, envelopes and lettering poetry. Using a step-by-step approach, students will be introduced to this versatile and elegant letterform from the Italian Renaissance. Beginning with the proper holding of the pen and understanding how it works, we will study the individual shapes and spacing needed to make beautiful letters. Students will leave this 6-session class knowing the basic skills of calligraphy and create a finished piece on good paper.

Class meets Wednesday evenings, beginning April 27 and runs through June 8. (no class on May 18.) Class is limited to 10 students.

Instructor: Sherrie Lovler is an internationally known calligrapher and artist. She has been teaching calligraphy and related arts for over 30 years through adult education programs, art guilds, Ghost Ranch, International Calligraphy Conferences and accredited courses at Northern Arizona University. Her art has been in many juried shows both locally and nationally, and in her recently published book, On Softer Ground: Paintings, Poems and Calligraphy. Sherrie’s paintings can be seen during Sonoma County Art Trails in October and online at www.artandpoetry.com and www.inkmonkey.com.
