Joaquin Lamar Hailey, aka Chor Boogie, is the internationally renowned lead mural artist who will work with 15 Sonoma teens to create an outdoor mural in Boyes Springs. The team of fifteen will be led by Chor through the design process themed to community and cultural awareness. Painting of the mural is scheduled to begin in early fall on the south wall of Republic of Thrift, located at 17496 CA-12, Sonoma, CA 95476.
Through its Arts Education: Extension grant, the California Arts Council is the lead funder for SVMA’s Teen Mural Project. Sonoma Valley Museum of Art has also recently received a NEA grant for the project. Bank of Marin has provided the third grant to complete the funding for the project. We’re honored to have received these grants and to be working with community partners Art Escape and La Luz Center.
Applications for teens who are interested in participating are available at Art Escape, La Luz in the Springs, Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Teen Services Sonoma, The Club at Maxwell Village, SVHS Art Department and College and Career Center, and at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art located at 551 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476.
